Recombinant Protein Production & Purification — rPEx® Platform

High-quality Recombinant Protein Production
AVS Bio's rPEx® platform delivers high-quality recombinant proteins from research scale to large-scale production, with more than 25,000 proteins produced to date. From simple antigens to complex enzymes and advanced antibody formats (mono-, bi-, tri-, and multi-specific), our flexible workflows use a broad range of purification technologies (protein A/G, CaptureSelect resins, IMAC, streptactin, anti-FLAG, IEX, HIC, SEC) to produce proteins qualified for research and pre-clinical use, with fast turnaround times. We also purify proteins from client-supplied material, such as conditioned media, body fluids, or partially purified preparations.

rPEx® Platform: Fast, Scalable, Reliable
With 20+ years of expertise, our rPEx® transient expression platform (HEK293 or CHO) generates fully post-translationally modified proteins with endotoxin levels below 1 EU/mg. From cloning of codon-optimized synthetic genes to protein delivery, projects average 4 weeks. Every batch includes a detailed production report and CoA. rPEx® scales seamlessly — from discovery (10–100 µg) to medium (100 µg–10 mg) and large-scale production (10 mg–grams).
Key specifications:
Bi- and Multi-specific Antibodies
Bi- and multi-specific antibodies enable therapies that target multiple antigens or redirect immune cells, with T-cell engagers being a classic example. AVS Bio supports the full range of formats — including Fc-free — with flexible heteromerization and purification technologies. From high-throughput discovery (10–100 µg) to gram-scale production, we deliver tailored solutions to match your research needs. Custom analytical methods are also available on request.
Resource:
VHH Production
AVS Bio offers tag-free, large-scale production of VHH antibodies — monospecific or multi-specific, including those discovered using AVS Bio's discovery platform or antibodies supplied by clients.
ADCC-Enhanced Antibodies
By relying on ProBioGen's GlymaxX® technology, AVS Bio produces ADCC-enhanced antibodies without requiring recloning or risking expression reduction, both common with other technologies. This ensures faster, more reliable development when compared to point-mutation strategies.
Resource:
Large-Scale Production
AVS Bio offers large-scale recombinant protein production (up to 150 liters) using either transient transfections in HEK293 or CHO cells or with stably transfected CHO cell lines provided by clients or generated by our in-house Cell Line Development service. Final product, which can be qualified using your preferred analytical methods, comes with a detailed report and certificate of analysis (CoA).

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the rPEx® protein expression platform?
A: rPEx® is AVS Bio's proprietary recombinant protein expression platform. It uses optimized HEK293 and CHO cell lines to produce high-yield recombinant proteins including antibodies, fusion proteins, and multi-specific constructs. The platform supports proper post-translational modifications, making it suitable for complex proteins that require folding and glycosylation. AVS Bio has delivered more than 25,000 proteins via rPEx®, at scales from research quantities up to 150 liters.
Q: How does HEK293 expression differ from CHO expression for recombinant proteins?
A: HEK293 (Human Embryonic Kidney) cells produce human-like glycosylation patterns, making them preferred for proteins where glycan structure affects function or immunogenicity. CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells are the industry standard for large-scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing due to their high expression yields and established regulatory track record. AVS Bio's rPEx® platform supports both, with system selection guided by the protein target and downstream application.
