SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) Eggs for Vaccine Production & Research

SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) eggs are fertilized chicken eggs produced from flocks certified free of a defined list of avian pathogens. They provide a controlled substrate for growing viruses used in vaccine production — including influenza, yellow fever, Marek's-derived viral vector, and MMR vaccines — and for a wide range of immunological research and virus propagation applications.

AVS Bio has been producing SPF eggs since 1961 and has delivered more than 1 billion eggs to vaccine manufacturers, research institutions, and diagnostics developers worldwide.

Product Grades

We offer two SPF egg grades to meet different application requirements:

  • Premium Plus Eggs — certified negative for Chicken Anemia Virus (CAV). The standard grade for vaccine manufacturing and most research applications.
  • Research Eggs — meets the Premium Plus standard, with added endogenous GS antigen-free. Recommended for applications where endogenous leukosis interference must be excluded.

Both grades are available as standard and incubated (embryonated) eggs. Let us pre-incubate the eggs to your desired embryo age so you can focus on downstream production.

Quality & Regulatory Standards

All SPF eggs are produced in FAPP (Filter Air Positive Pressure) facilities using validated or compendial biological assays to confirm SPF status. Every shipment is accompanied by a QC sheet documenting flock certification. AVS Bio complies with both USDA memorandum 800.65 and European Pharmacopoeia 5.2.2 for Specific Pathogen Free flocks — supporting customers in US and EU regulated markets.

Custom Specifications

Custom egg specifications are available for projects with unique requirements, including eggs from specific flock ages, defined gram size ranges (44–49 g, 50–54 g, 55–59 g, 60+ g), specific flock genetic lines, or designated individual flocks. Contact us to discuss your project requirements.
