SPF Chickens

AVS Bio maintains multiple state-of-the-art, US-based grow houses dedicated to raising of SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) chickens for vaccine manufacturing, QC testing, challenge studies, serum production, and research applications.

SPF chickens are used when a pathogen-free, immunologically naive host is required — for vaccine production, virus challenge studies, immunization programs, in vivo QC testing of biologics, and tissue or serum collection. Because our birds are maintained in FAPP (Filter Air Positive Pressure) biosecurity facilities with no prior pathogen exposure, they provide a controlled, consistent biological system for vaccine production, quality control, research, and regulatory applications.

Available Ages & Specifications

Birds are available from day-old through 6 weeks as standard inventory, with older birds available on request. Age availability varies — please consult our representatives before ordering.

• Standard ages: 1-day-old, 1-week-old, 2-week-old, 3-week-old, 4-week-old, 5-week-old, 6-week-old
• Extended age: 61+ weeks (available on request)
• Sex: non-sexed standard; sex-specified available from 4 weeks onward (sex not guaranteed at 4 & 5 weeks due to developmental factors)

Regulatory Compliance

All chickens conform to USDA VS Memo 800.65. Birds older than 17 weeks are tested according to European Pharmacopoeia requirements. A QC sheet is provided with each shipment documenting pathogen-free status.
