Sp-D, Porcine
Porcine SP-D is a 378 amino-acid trimeric glycoprotein, glycans at positions 90 and 323, and the trimerisation takes place via the 177 amino-acid residue long collagen structure. SP-D contributes to the lung's defense against inhaled microorganisms and it may participate in the extracellular reorganization or turnover of pulmonary surfactant. Sp-D binds strongly maltose residues and to a lesser extent other alpha-glucosyl moieties.
