Antibody binding the outer membrane protein 85 of Neisseria meningitidis. This antibody was tested by Western blot using Neisseria meningitidis extracts expressing a POTRA domain deletion series. This suggested that clone 32.F9 recognizes the core beta barrel structure lacking all periplasmic POTRA domains. Neisseria meningitidis is a Gram-negative, encapsulated diplococcus and an important human pathogen responsible for bacterial meningitis and septicemia. N. meningitidis colonizes the nasopharynx of healthy carriers but can invade the bloodstream and central nervous system under certain conditions, leading to life-threatening infections.
