Human PAD2
PAD2 (Peptidylarginine Deiminase 2) is an enzyme expressed in a wide range of tissues, including immune cells such as macrophages and neutrophils. It catalyzes the citrullination (deimination) of arginine residues in proteins, a post-translational modification that can alter protein structure and function. Dysregulated PAD2 activity has been associated with autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and certain cancers, where aberrant citrullination contributes to inflammation and autoantigen formation.
